Florentine Mosaic Photo Frame made in Florence, Italy. Italian Artisans craft these exquisite pieces using a traditional Florentine technique, which involves cutting the thin slices of Murano glass and placing each piece into the intricate floral design.
The art and technique of Byzantine mosaics have not changed since they were first made at the beginning of the 5th century in Ravenna, Italy. The process resumed and flourished again in the 19th century in Florence, Italy. Each thread of brightly colored enameled glass is cut and attached to another to form the original and distinctive designs. A diminishing number of expert craftspersons limits the painstaking work of creating Byzantine mosaics.
