Artisans in Florence, Italy craft these intricate pieces by using a traditional Florentine technique. Made by cutting thin slices of Murano glass cane and placing each individual piece together into the gold-plated cross.
Byzantine mosaics are made in the same technique as they began in the 5th century. The process resumed and flourished again in the 19th century in Florence, Italy. Each thread of brightly colored enameled glass is cut and attached to another to form the original and distinctive designs. The painstaking work of creating Byzantine mosaics is limited by a diminishing number of expert craftspersons.
The pendant measures approximately 4.25" in length (excluding metal ring), 2.75" in width (the cross).
