How to Care for Your My Italian Decor Products

Congratulations! You just bought your first My Italian Decor product, now what?  While you admire it sparkling in the light as it sits on your coffee table, your mantle, or your dresser, you might wonder how to care for such a work of art.  Fortunately, it’s easier than it seems, but there are certainly a few guidelines to follow.

Murano glass, whether it is blown or Lamp Worked, whether it is solid or hollow, will need to be periodically cleaned to keep it’s reflective, shiny quality. The pieces with gold patina should be dusted on a weekly basis with a lint free cloth or a microfiber cloth.  Once a month or as needed, a microfiber with warm water and if necessary, a neutral soap can be used. Always make sure to wash or dust items separately, as cleaning two or more products together can cause them to scratch or damage each other.

Any Murano drinking glass or other glassware such as a bowl or vase can go into the dishwasher safely; however, if it has gold or silver leaf, it should always be washed by hand.

Jewelry should be stored in a dry jewelry box to protect against oxidizing and be cleaned with a dry lint free cloth or a microfiber cloth.  Depending on the use of the jewelry, they should be taken to a jeweler for deep cleaning once or twice a year.

Our hand-painted Venetian glass and glassware requires a bit more care, since the paint is applied after the piece is finished by a process called enameling.  Wash by hand and individually with warm water, neutral soap, and a soft sponge.  Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive sponges, and water that is too hot.  Hand-painted Venetian glass is not dishwasher or microwave safe.  Drying thoroughly after washing is recommended to avoid any streaks or water spots.

Our vibrant Florentine ceramics are best washed in a dishwasher.  They can be washed by hand carefully and one at a time to avoid chipping.  Store them with a cloth in between each one to protect them and ensure that they remain as perfect as the day you bought them.

While these guidelines may seem tedious, they are important for maintaining the beauty of your glass piece.  Murano glass is very special and unique, with no two pieces exactly alike.  They deserve extra care and attention and taking care of them will help you to appreciate the work and skill that goes into each piece.
